I even needed that last bit as the 'Delete' button was grayed out. I just had the exact same problem except in my case SVG was stuck to IE6 and neither 'Open With' nor Tools > Folder Options > File Types would allow changing it to Inkscape.

Hope no one has to go through this, but if you do, this is a quick fix, well, once you know how yo do it!

Click that, then the delete option should become available. OH, and if the delete option is NOT showing (greyed out), There should be a button that gives you the option of RESTORING the file type. I needed to go to the advanced tab and associate it with Scalable Vector Graphics Files. What didn't work for me was just deleting the SVG file type then creating it again. In my case the file type was then instantly associated with INKSCAPE. Next tot the Associated File Type scroll down until you can find Scalable Vector Graphics File.ĩ. Type SVG a nd then select the ADVANCED button.Ĩ. Not really hard but just have to do it the right way or it won't work.ĥ. Now here's where it got a bit tricky and took some iterations. Scroll down to SVG (or just type in SVG for a quicker jump) Go to the menu: TOOLS>FOLDER OPTION>FILE TYPES TABģ. In windows, open my documents folder ( or any folder will work really).Ģ. I really can't figure out how to fix this. So thanks for your response, but I think we have to dig a bit deeper here. All the SVG file icons are FIREFOX icons.

I do exactly what you say and still, the association always returns to FIREFOX, even when I browse to the inkskape.exe file and select it. What you describe SHOULD work.every time. But now you clearly see the source of my frustration.

Thanks for that, but as I mentioned (maybe not clearly enough though) I've already tried those methods. Then select Inkscape from the list, if it's not there you'll have to find it using Browse button (like in first example). If you don't see Inkscape on the list click the Browse button and navigate to your Inkscape folder and choose Inkscape.exeĪnother way is to open Windows Explorer and go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types, find the SVG file type and click Change button. dialog where you choose Inkscape from the list but make sure you tick "Always use the selected program."
