I even needed that last bit as the 'Delete' button was grayed out. I just had the exact same problem except in my case SVG was stuck to IE6 and neither 'Open With' nor Tools > Folder Options > File Types would allow changing it to Inkscape.

Hope no one has to go through this, but if you do, this is a quick fix, well, once you know how yo do it!

I do exactly what you say and still, the association always returns to FIREFOX, even when I browse to the inkskape.exe file and select it. What you describe SHOULD work.every time. But now you clearly see the source of my frustration.

Then select Inkscape from the list, if it's not there you'll have to find it using Browse button (like in first example).
